Why Go Green?

We all use electricity, and between us, we use a lot.  In order to generate electricity we use ‘traditional’ methods by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas, or nuclear  power.

• The consumption of fossil fuels has damaged our environment and continues to do so
• Traditional fuels are limited and are rapidly running out
• The mining and transportation of these fuels impacts on the environment
• There have been devastating problems during mining and transport, such as oil spills and nuclear accidents
• The burning of fossil fuels to create electricity releases harmful pollutants into the atmosphere
• These pollutants contribute to global warming

What is global warming?

Global warming is the unnatural increase in the Earth’s surface temperature, which has become increasingly apparent since 1880. The cause is an increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide. CO2 is released when fossil fuels are burnt in the process of making electricity.

Green and sustainable energy solutions do not use fossil fuels. They use the natural energy our planet and Sun produces. There are many reasons why we should go green:

• Solar energy is sustainable and will not run out
• Solar PV does not produce any pollutants
• By using solar energy you’ll be assisting in reducing the amount of harmful greenhouse gasses including CO2
• Solar energy generation does not contribute to global warming
• Protect the planet for our grandchildren and future generations
